Fighter Spotlight: Angel Navarro Is Nineteen And Not In A Hurry
The youngest fighter we have signed, a coach who keeps turning down bouts for him, and a plan measured in years.

We signed Angel Navarro at nineteen. His coach has turned down four fights for him since.
Why the caution
Navarro is talented enough that people want to rush him, which is exactly why nobody around him will. He has had two professional bouts and both were against opponents chosen to teach him something specific rather than to pad a record.
What he does well
Foot speed, and an unusual willingness to fight off the back foot at an age where almost everybody wants to walk forward. He learned it from his older brother, who boxed as an amateur and never turned pro.
What he needs
Weight and time. He is lean in a way that will not hold up at the top of the division, and his camp is building slowly rather than force feeding him. Everybody involved understands that a rushed nineteen year old becomes a finished twenty-three year old.
The family piece
His mother comes to every fight and watches almost none of it. She sits in the second row facing away and turns around between rounds. He knows. He says it helps anyway.
The plan
