Coming Up From Visalia For Fight Night
Fifty miles up the 99, when to leave, and whether it is worth staying over.
By Marcus Vela

Visalia sends a steady crowd to every card we run. The drive is easy right up until it is not.
The drive
About fifty miles and fifty minutes on the 99 in normal conditions. On a Friday evening leaving after five, add thirty minutes. Leaving Visalia at four-thirty gets you downtown relaxed. Leaving at five-fifteen gets you a rushed walk from the garage.
Tule fog season
From November through February the 99 north of Tulare can go from clear to zero visibility in a mile. If there is fog in the forecast, either leave early in daylight or stay over. Nobody should be driving that road at eleven at night in December after a long event.
Staying over
Downtown Fresno hotels are within walking distance of the venue and they are not expensive midweek. For a group it usually works out cheaper than two cars of gas and a designated driver nobody wants to be.
Making a day of it
Come up in the afternoon, eat in the Tower District, walk to the arena. That turns a fifty mile drive into an outing instead of an errand.
Visalia fighters
We have had three Visalia-trained fighters on our cards in the last two years and there are more coming. If you want to see somebody from home fight, check the undercard when the card is announced rather than waiting for the main event lineup.
