Why Fresno Is A Fight City
The Central Valley has produced hard fighters for a century. Here is why the tradition holds.

Fresno has never needed a marketing campaign to build fighters. Farm work, boxing gyms tucked behind auto shops, and a crowd that shows up for anybody willing to stand and trade did the job.
The gyms came first
Long before anybody was promoting cards here, there were neighborhood gyms with no websites and no sign out front. Most of them are still running. A few of them have produced more professional fighters than gyms in cities ten times the size.
Why the crowd is different
Valley fight crowds know what they are watching. They react to a slipped punch, not just a landed one. Fighters notice. Several of ours have said this is the only room where they can hear the crowd respond to something technical.
What we set out to do
When we launched Big Dawg the plan was never to import stars. It was to give fighters already grinding in Valley gyms a stage with real pay, real medicals and real coverage.
Whether it worked
Twelve cards later, every main event we have promoted has featured at least one fighter who trains within sixty miles of downtown Fresno. That was the whole point, and it is the part we are least willing to compromise on.
What is next
More small cards in more Valley towns. Madera, Visalia and Clovis have all asked. If the sport belongs here, it should not only happen downtown.
