Wash cold, inside out

Heat fades black dye and friction wears down print. Cold water and turning the garment inside out addresses both. That is most of the job.

Hang dry when you can

A dryer is the fastest way to shorten the life of a heavyweight tee. If you have to use one, tumble low and pull it while it is still slightly damp.

Never put a cap in the wash

Machine washing collapses the structured front panel and warps the brim. Spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. If a cap is genuinely filthy, hand wash it and let it dry over something round.

Embroidery vs print

Embroidery survives almost anything except a hot dryer. Screen print survives almost anything except an iron placed directly on it. If you need to press a printed shirt, put a towel between the iron and the print.

Storage

Fold heavyweight knitwear, do not hang it. Hangers stretch the shoulders on anything with weight to it, and that stretch does not come out.
